The GSMA mWomen Program announces the launch of the mWomen BOP (Base of the Pyramid) App Challenge, sponsored by Vodafone.
This exciting challenge aims to leverage the significant demand for innovative App design and provide original and fresh customised App solutions targeted at the specific needs of women in developing countries.
This global challenge is two tiered: Tier 1 will be an App for a low--end device or feature phone and Tier 2 will be an App for Smart Phones.

Building Scalable Mobile Widgets - With Examples

This is the first in a series of posts that will attempt to address building mobile widgets that will scale properly between multiple devices. We will look at how we can deal with multiple screen resolutions, varying screen PPI (pixel per inch) densities, as well as gracefully switching between portrait and landscape modes.

The sizing of text and graphical elements on different displays is a fairly complex problem in Web development. It is different to what you simulate when you drag your browser window to different sizes – because it is more about the pixel's physical size. A working solution to this is built into the Vodafone Widget Manager and it's only based on standards: CSS, CSS Media Queries and JavaScript.

Mobile 2.0 Europe – 17th June Barcelona

Tomorrow sees the Vodafone Developer Team head out to Mobile 2.0 Europe in Barcelona. The event is coined as “a one-day event for developers exploring the future of mobile” and includes 16 different workshop sessions, 14 sessions on the app economy with panels and talks from thought leaders, and rounding off the event is the App Circus where 10 finalists pitch their app for fame.
