Hi,
I have an eee pc 700. can VMC work with it? the 700 isn't specifically mentioned anywhere, but it specifically isn't mentioned in the list of models betavine says it should work for...
I installed VMC version 2.10.01-1 but have found a version 2.25.01-1. i haven't tried installing that yet as it wasn't in the betavine repository.
The modem i have is the ZTE 3805Z, which doesn't show up as a CD anymore, but only shows up in lsusb as ID 19d2:1003 with no name.
when i tried to install the package i got the error:
E: /var/cache/apt/archives/vodafone-mobile-connect_2.10.01-1_all.deb: subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 1
as well as not working, I can't remove it or reinstall it. i get the error:
E: vodafone-mobile-connect: subprocess pre-removal script returned error exit status 1
so I looked in /var/lib/dpkg/info at vodafone-mobile-connect.prerm and it refers to the simpleui.rc file stored in both /opt/xandros/share/AsusLauncher/ which exists, and in /var/lib/AsusLauncher/ which doesn't exist. could this non-existing folder be the bit that causes the preremoval script to fall over? (BTW i am a linux noob - don't be fooled if it sounds like i vaguely know what i'm doing - i've simply been investigating what the problem may be before troubling you!)
in /var/lib/AsusLauncher/ there are files called:
simpleui.rc
simpleui.rc~ // does this just mean i have it open?
simpleui.rc.orig // i think i created this ages ago as a backup
simpleui.rc.vmc.inst
simpleui.rc.vmc.inst.remv
the 2 vmc ones look like the original one - could the remove script be falling over because i have changed the simpleui.rc to personalise it a little?
also - could the vodafone-mobile-connect.postinst have created a problem by having the fix_chap function duplicated?
phew! have tried to include any info that may be relevant to avoid to much back and forth, but if anything else might help let me know.
i've read similar problems on this forum and others, but there was no clear way to resolve it - so any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks for at least reading!
Tristan
