Hi Nicholas,
I have an Option N.V. GLobeTrotter HSUPA Modem; I have been using it with success with Ubuntu 9.10 trough Network Manager until a couple of week ago. Today I just discovered that it doesn't connect anymore!
I just tried the version 3 of your Vodafone Mobile connect but it doesn't connect. Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance
Michele

Hi Jon, following your suggestions I'm now able to connect using the network manager (0.8~a~git.20091013): I had also to install usb-modeswitch. thank you very much for that. The only problem now is that when I unplug the stick some time the system completely freeze and I have the reboot holding the power button! Any idea? I'm trying to investigate more this issue and I will come back best regards michele

Hi, The problem you have seems similar to mine. I believe the latest version of network-manager (mine is 0.8.0ubuntu2~nmt1), has been fixed so it works fine - though I have not tested this since my SIM in now set to no-PIN. UPDATE: I just turned on SIM PIN, and can confirm that the bug has been fixed, and Network-manager connects fine. Either way, if you re-install network-manager and Modem-manager (remove VMC). You should be able to connect OK - if it doesn't work with the PIN, put the SIM in a phone and turn off PIN protection. Until the latest version of VMC is further developed, I'm doing without the extra functions it provides and just using network-manager/modem-manager as it comes with Ubuntu. Hope this allows you to connect. Jon

thanks for reporting your experience. I'm using ubuntu 9.10 and vmc 2.20.01-1 and it doesn't work! it recognizes the k3760 but the connection doesn't work. The behavior is quite strange: some time I can insert the pin code and press the connection button but after that no connection available; some time the computer completely and I have to press to power button to shutdown. any help (or plan for solution from the betavine team) is very appreciate. Thank you in advance Best regards michele

Hi - I've been following this for a while - between network-manager and VMC I've had various bits working; however I am now in the situation that I have a working solution using just Network Manager (currently running Ubuntu 10.04 Alpha 2, but the problem may go back to the same update of Network Manager you experienced problems with). The BASIC summary is this: after an update of Network-Manager, my K3760 stopped working. (I had actually done the update because I wanted to try the alpha release of VMC). I installed VMC alpha, and this would run OK and recognise the K3760 - notably, it would communicate enough to unlock the dongle with the SIM PIN - but would not connect. However, clicking on the connection in Network Manager would connect OK. (Although often I had to uninstall/reinstall either/both to get it to work...suspect config file issues?) However - there is a bug with Network Manager which fails to pass the SIM PIN (Bug #509738). If you disable the SIM PIN (either use VMC or put the sim in a phone and turn off SIM security), Network Manager will connect OK. A fix is in the pipeline... No idea why VMC won't connect...but have been concentarting on getting the connection working for now! Hope this helps someone!

Hi Michele, can you tell me what is the product id of your card? It should be on the back of the card with a number like K3520. When the card is inserted into the USB port can you also run:
>lsusb

and paste the output into this thread. Kind regards, Nicholas.

Hi Michele, I've added a place holder for your question. We did not add support for this device in the version 3.0. However I'd like to see if we can work with you in getting this done. I'll have to get the correct experts involved in helping with this. I don't have this card, but I know a man who does!!! :-) ... It's my first day back from holiday so bare with me while I set this up. Kind regards, Nicholas.
