Two questions:

a) Does the latest version of BCM (whatever it might be) work on Ubuntu 12.04?

b) Where do I find the latest version of BCM? I used to be able to find it on the old Betavine site, but I can't work out where it is now!

I'm currently running BCM 2.99.12-1 on Ubuntu 10.04 and I am supremely confident that that version will stop working when/if I upgrade to 12.04. Although I would presumably still have internet connectivity because of Ubuntu's built-in support for mobile broadband dongles, I'd prefer to have a working version of BCM so that I can send texts from my dongle. I have a prepay dongle for Vodafone EspaƱa and it's necessary to send a text to purchase a usage bundle. I'd rather not have to mess around taking the SIM out of the dongle and putting it in a mobile phone to do that when I'm next in Spain!

Thanks

Dane

Hi Andrew,

I've no idea whether there was a release a week after you posted your reply as I still have no idea where to find BCM these days. I tried navigating down from the home page via Labs -> Open Source -> Products etc, but finished up at:

http://developer.vodafone.com/labs/opensource/linux-connection-manager/broadband-connection-manager/

which talks only about BCM 2.99 for Ubuntu (and furthermore it has links to forge.betavine.net that don't work).

Maybe I'm overlooking something obvious, but new versions of BCM seem to be extremely well hidden from potential users!

Regards,

Dane

I am ready to do some work to add support for devices widely used in Russia (such as Huawei E1550 and Alcatel OT X060S) to BCM.

However https://forge.betavine.net and its subpages return an error message and are unavailable. (I've submitted a support ticket on it.) Should I use SVN to get the developer version of BCM and contrivbute to the project?

  1. Hi there, The development repositories have moved to github until we can get public git hosting at Vodafone. See https://github.com/andrewbird/wader # wader core / python-wader and https://github.com/andrewbird/vodafone-mobile-broadband # BCM renamed Hope it helps, Andrew - (11 months, 4 weeks ago) andrewbird

Hi Dane, I'm just working on ironing out few wrinkles on bcm, Wader core is complete but not released yet. Expect a release and packages in around a week from now.

Best regards,

Andrew
