M2M
Welcome to our M2M connectivity page
The M2M section is an area dedicated to the developers, SMEs, technologists, teachers, academics, and everyone in between who want to get machine to machine type devices connected to Vodafone's wide area networks.
Our aspirations is not only to enable the secure connection of billions of devices - but to provide the underlying framework to facilitate their control and management. We would like to support and enhance a generic platform that allows anyone to easily connect whatever they invent.
Demos
Vodafone and ARM are working together to enable connectivity for mbed via 3G dongles. This allows anyone with the ARM mbed micro-controller and Vodafone K3770 3G dongle to easily connect and use a software library dedicated for M2M.
With this anyone can easily connect and use SMS, USSD, HTTP, BSD sockets, websockets, web services, and a suite of API's that are being developed. We've hopefully taken the pain out of connecting with micro-controllers!
In the demo section you can find out what we have used the framework for, how we went about it, where to go to find out more and some behind the scenes videos as we move forward with this project. Currently the demo section only holds examples with the mbed platform.
Code
Coding section shows you code examples and code snippets to get you started. Everything from SMS, to calling up an API over HTTP.
Feel free to cut'n'paste our example code to get your devices working across our network, or you can link to them from the mbed.org via our links directly. Currently our examples only work for the mbed device.
Events, meetups and hackathons...
We are very active at the minute within the UK and Europe. Please feel free to view where we have been and what we are doing next.
Our plans in brief are to attend most of the IoT meetup events in the London area. Other large events will be embedded conferences, hackathons and mobile developer events.
Where to buy and topup
Currently we officially support two Vodafone dongle which are the K3770 and K3772-Z. The software library will work with PAYT UK, contract UK.
The software is still under test but released as open source - we will be supporting Germany, UK and Spain SIM's that are compatible. However only UK SIM's work out the box at the minute
